Leaf Inspired Design Exploration Book

Overview

Created for a Graphic Design II course, Branching Out is a conceptual design book that explores the creative potential of leaves as a visual theme. The challenge was to develop a cohesive publication centered around an inanimate object or natural occurrence. I chose leaves for their rich symbolism, visual diversity, and connection to growth, transformation, and nature.

This multi-disciplinary project incorporated several techniques and design explorations:

  • Bitmap artwork created from original leaf photography
  • A custom letterform series built entirely from photographed and manipulated leaves
  • Leaf-inspired typographic art using foliage textures and forms
  • A visual identity system and poster series, including patterns and branding
  • Printmaking with linocut techniques to create patterns bring a tactile, organic quality to the work

The final product blends photography, typography, illustration, and print into a unified celebration of natural beauty through graphic design. It reflects both conceptual thinking and hands-on craftsmanship, making it one of my most exploratory and experimental projects to date.
