Jermaine Rogers Art Book

Overview

For this project, I created a 48-page hardcover book that explores the creative legacy of Jermaine Rogers—an influential American visual artist known for his groundbreaking gig posters, collectible vinyl figures, and social commentary through design. The goal was to develop a book that functioned not only as a tribute to Rogers’ multidisciplinary work but also as a cohesive, well-researched typographic system that enhances the storytelling.

The book is divided into four in-depth chapters, each supported by original writing, image curation, and infographic design. The structure guides readers through Rogers’ evolution—from his roots in poster art and political graphics to the rich symbolic world of his Dero mythology and expansion into vinyl collectibles and fine art objects. All content was written, designed, and typeset by me, with emphasis on typographic hierarchy, pacing, and visual storytelling.

The design draws heavily from Rogers’ bold aesthetic. I used vibrant color blocking, high-contrast compositions, and intentional negative space to echo his visual voice while maintaining a clean, readable layout. Each spread is structured to let the art speak, balancing dense critical text with large-scale imagery to provide rhythm and variation throughout.

Printed mockups were built on glossy coated paper to simulate a premium, case-bound experience. As part of the deliverables, I also created a promotional infographic for the book, and designed a back cover and website launch copy to support its release.

This project allowed me to combine writing, research, and editorial design into a cohesive narrative artifact that celebrates an artist who pushes the boundaries of form, message, and medium.
